Hillary Clinton’s message to the Cypriots

Hillary Clinton will deliver a message in the World Federation of Overseas Cypriots about the engagement of the USA to end the division of Cyprus. The meeting opening is this week in Nicosia.

The message will be recorded and Mrs. Clinton will encourage the peaceful efforts for the solution of the Cypriot issue.

According to the newspaper “Ethnos”, the American minister will invite the Cypriot people to support the tough decisions required for a solution. She will also ask for a bizonal bicommunal federation that the majority of the Cypriot people does not prefer. Some of the emigrant Cypriot leaders are against this solution but in the formal meetings they are obedient to each Cypriot government.

In her message, Mrs. Clinton will underline her appreciation for the support of the emigrants in the efforts for the reunification  of Cyprus. She will also emphasize on the fact that the Cypriot negotiations about a bizonal bicommunal federation is the only way in order for peace to come in the island. She knows that the negotiations are very difficult and that needs compromise.

She will also say that the leaders of both communities should stay in focus during the negotiations and that Cyprus is an important associate and friend of the USA.
