Events in memory of Cyprus

Mr. Andreas Dimitriou, Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus, represents this year the Cypriot government during the memorial events, which are being organized this month, on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the coup d’etat and the illegal invasion of Cyprus, by the state Coordinating Committees “Justice for Cyprus” of Australia.

Mr. Dimitriou is expected to arrive in Melbourne on Friday and will be present at the human chain which is organized bySEKA at 5pm on the steps of the State Parliament. Then, he will be taking part in a symbolic supper in memory of the difficult days that the people who were displaced from their ancestral homes went through and became refugees in their own homeland, whereby he will address a greeting. A presentation of testimonies of survivors from the tragedy of ’74 will follow.

On Sunday, following the memorial service for the fallen in the Church of St. Eftstathios on Dorca Road in South Melbourne, he will participate in the protest march with the State Parliament as its final destination.

Today, a protest took place outside the Turkish consulate of Melbourne for the Turkish invasion, the illegal occupation of 37% of the Cypriot ground, the desecration of monuments of the cultural heritage of the island and the blatant violation of values and abuse of human rights.
