The Patriarch of Alexandria requests the continuation of the scheduled services of Athens – Alexandria itinerary

The Primate of the Orthodox Church in Africa, His Beatitude Theodoros, expressed the request of the Greek Community in Egypt and especially Hellenes in Alexandria for the continuation of the connecting flight Athens-Alexandria in a telephone discussion he had with Andreas Vgenopoulos.
Olympic airways have announced that the aforementioned scheduled services will be discontinued from the 19th of July, a flight which has been operating for years now with good attendance rates, which will create a problem for Greeks in Alexandria as they will have to transfer to Cairo in order to travel to Greece.
On his part, Mr. Vgenopoulos promised to readdress the issue within the capacity limits of the airlines in accordance with the future program of the company.
According to the announcement made on the Olympic Air website “However, the Egyptian market remains one of significant strategic importance for Olympic Air and the company is committed to continue evaluating the potential re-activation of the route in the foreseeable future.”
