It is rare to have a Hollywood producer sit at a place for over three hours without speaking on the phone or talking with other producers about new projects. This is how Hollywood works: hundreds – if not thousands – of phone calls, and endless discussion that has to take place about a movie that may not even be filmed. These people – the producers – are the ones that do the job, from day one until the premiere.
Sid Ganis is one of these madmen. In addition to running Out of the Blue, a production company he started with his wife, for the past four years he has also been the President of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
For this interview, we managed to do the impossible. We dragged him away from his office and phone, had him sit on a sofa and talk with us for almost three hours. But he wasn’t upset, as he said when we met with him “I’m always happy to talk to Greeks, since I am one myself”.
