An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit 78 km (48 miles) southeast of the Greek island of Karpathos at 15:38 UTC (17:38 local time) on Tuesday.
According to initial estimations by the European – Mediterranean Seismic Center, the temblor’s depth was only 10 kilometers (6 miles) beneath the seabed, which is considered to be a very shallow quake.
The jolt was felt throughout the Dodecanese archipelago and in Eastern Crete; however there are still no reports of any damage at this time.
