Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence tool Grok Imagine has released the first episode of its AI-generated adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey. The clip runs for about seven minutes, offering an early look at a project that Musk previously promised would become a full-length film.

The video appeared on the Grok Imagine account on X on October 23, 2026. The post credited Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker for their creative collaboration.

The release marks the first public installment of the project, but it falls short of the full-length movie Musk announced in July.

From a full-length movie to the first episode

In July, Musk said Grok Imagine would create a full-length version of The Odyssey before the end of 2026. He described the planned production as “historically accurate” and faithful to Homer’s work.

The first release, however, is presented as Episode 1 of an ongoing series. The announcement does not provide a release date for any further episodes or confirm when a full-length version might arrive.

The clip introduces Odysseus and the events leading to the Trojan War. It uses AI-generated visuals and English-language dialogue to bring the ancient Greek epic to the screen.

The production’s historical accuracy remains a separate question. Homer’s Odyssey is an epic poem combining mythological storytelling with elements that may reflect aspects of the ancient world. It is not a straightforward historical record.

AI filmmaking faces questions about storytelling

Early reviews have raised questions about the clip’s dialogue, pacing and visual consistency. TechCrunch, which reviewed the footage, argued that the production lacked a strong sense of narrative momentum and human interest.

The release also highlights a broader challenge for AI-generated entertainment. Creating convincing images is only one part of filmmaking. A successful adaptation must also build characters, sustain a story and convey emotion.

Musk’s announcement placed particular emphasis on historical accuracy and fidelity to Homer. Whether AI-generated filmmaking can meet those ambitions will depend on more than its ability to recreate an ancient setting.

For now, the seven-minute episode offers a first glimpse of Grok Imagine’s approach to one of the best-known works of ancient Greek literature. It remains to be seen whether the project will develop into the full-length film Musk originally promised.
