Giannis Antetokounmpo made an impressive start to his Miami Heat career, earning MVP chants from the home crowd despite his team’s 131-106 defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Greek superstar scored 35 points and grabbed six rebounds in his first regular-season appearance for Miami. Fans began chanting “MVP” less than two minutes into the game, welcoming the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player to his new team.
However, his strong individual performance could not prevent Minnesota from taking control of the season opener.
Antetokounmpo Shines as Timberwolves Dominate
Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 45 points and 10 rebounds. New Timberwolves guard LaMelo Ball also impressed in his debut, contributing 21 points and six assists.
The visitors established their advantage before halftime and maintained their momentum after the break. Minnesota finished with 21 three-pointers, compared with just eight for Miami.
Antetokounmpo shot 13-of-19 from the field and scored 21 points in the first half. His performance offered an early glimpse of what Miami hopes he can bring to its offense this season.
Yet the Heat struggled to match Minnesota’s shooting and defensive intensity. The visitors eventually secured a convincing 25-point victory.
A New Chapter for the Greek Superstar
Antetokounmpo began his NBA career with the Milwaukee Bucks, where he became one of the league’s leading players and won two MVP awards. His move to Miami marks a new chapter in his career and raises expectations for the Heat’s season.
The enthusiastic reception showed that Miami fans already see him as a major figure in the team’s future. Still, the opening-night result highlighted the work ahead as the Heat build chemistry around their new star.
For Antetokounmpo, the warm welcome and impressive debut offer encouraging signs as he begins a new chapter in Miami, with plenty of time ahead to help the Heat build a winning season.
