Kimberly Guilfoyle resigned Tuesday as U.S. ambassador to Greece after the White House requested her departure following allegations of improper conduct, which she strongly denied.
The resignation came shortly after White House press secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed that the administration had asked Guilfoyle to step down.
“We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team and we wish her well,” Zacharia said.
Guilfoyle subsequently announced her departure in a statement posted on X, thanking President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for appointing her to the diplomatic position.
“Serving as the United States Ambassador to Greece has been the honor of a lifetime,” Guilfoyle said.
“I will forever be grateful to President Donald J. Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for entrusting me with the extraordinary privilege of representing the greatest country in the history of the world.”
Guilfoyle Denies Allegations
Guilfoyle also addressed the allegations that preceded her departure, rejecting claims of improper conduct.
“These allegations are false, and I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity,” she said.
“I have dedicated my professional life to fighting for justice, standing up for what is right, and defending the values that make America exceptional.”
She added that she would not allow the accusations to define her years of public service.
The allegations include claims concerning her involvement with a Greek energy company and a financial dispute involving a former client. Her attorneys have previously denied wrongdoing.
Thanks Greece and Reaffirms Support for Trump
In her resignation statement, Guilfoyle said she would remain committed to Trump and his political agenda despite leaving her diplomatic position.
“While my time as Ambassador may be coming to an end, my commitment to President Trump, the America First movement, and the country I love will never end,” she said.
She also thanked Greece for the reception she received during her tenure.
“My deepest heartfelt appreciation to the people of Greece for their hospitality, partnership, and welcoming me with open arms,” Guilfoyle said.
She concluded by thanking American diplomats and military personnel and expressing her continued support for Trump.
