Greek swimming champion Apostolos Siskos added another prestigious medal to his collection at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris, capturing the bronze medal in the 200m butterfly final with a time of 1:54.13.
Delivering an outstanding performance in a high-caliber final, the Greek swimmer came within a whisper of the silver medal, missing out by just seven-hundredths of a second. Hungary’s Richard Marton touched the wall second in 1:54.06, followed closely by Siskos at 1:54.13.
In a dramatic, nail-biting finish, Siskos held off Italy’s Alberto Razzetti, who placed fourth in 1:54.23. The razor-thin margin separating the three swimmers highlighted the intense battle for the podium.
France’s superstar Léon Marchand took gold unchallenged, dominating the event to win in 1:51.72 and finishing more than two seconds ahead of his competitors.
A two-medal triumph in Paris for Apostolos Siskos
This bronze marks Siskos’s second podium finish at the Paris European Championships. Just two days prior, the 21-year-old broke the Greek national record in the 200m backstroke with a time of 1:53.81 to claim the silver medal, dipping under the 1:54 mark for the first time in his career.
Reflecting on his silver-medal performance in the backstroke, Siskos noted that he gave his “entire soul” in the final stretch, overcoming pre-championship injury setbacks and cementing his status as one of Europe’s premier swimmers as he builds momentum toward the 2028 Olympic Games. With two medals secured in Paris, Siskos has firmly reaffirmed his exceptional form on the international stage.
