Greek international athlete Christos Tzolis is on the verge of becoming the most expensive football player in Greek history after Arsenal reportedly agreed on a transfer deal worth around €40 million ($46 million) with Belgian champions Club Brugge for the 24-year-old winger.
According to reports from The Athletic and multiple British outlets, Arsenal has reached an agreement in principle with Brugge, with the transfer now awaiting final paperwork and a medical examination before becoming official. If completed at the reported fee, the move would surpass every previous transfer involving a Greek player and mark one of the largest outgoing deals in Belgian football history.
Tzolis emerged as one of Europe’s most productive attacking players last season, scoring 22 goals and providing 29 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions for Club Brugge as the Belgian side secured domestic success and impressed in European competition.
From Thessaloniki prodigy to Premier League return
Born in Thessaloniki, Tzolis came through the academy of PAOK before breaking into the first team as one of Greek football’s brightest young prospects. His performances earned him a move to Norwich City in 2021, but his first experience in English football proved difficult as Norwich struggled during its Premier League campaign, and the winger found opportunities limited.
Loan spells in Germany helped revive his career before his move to Club Brugge transformed his trajectory. In Belgium, Tzolis developed into one of the continent’s most effective wide attackers, combining goal scoring with creativity and attracting interest from several major European clubs. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reportedly identified the Greek international as a priority target following the departure of Belgian forward Leandro Trossard, viewing Tzolis as a player capable of adding pace, direction, and versatility across the front line.
A new benchmark for Greek football
The reported fee would establish a new transfer record for a Greek player. The current benchmark was set by defender Kostas Manolas when Napoli signed him from Roma in 2019 in a deal worth approximately €36 million, while Brighton’s acquisition of teenage striker Charalampos (Babis) Kostoulas from Olympiacos last summer also approached the record figure.
For Greek football, Tzolis’ move would represent another sign of the growing value of the country’s emerging generation of players, which includes Konstantinos Karetsas, Giannis Konstantelias, and Kostoulas. A successful spell in north London would also make Tzolis the first Greek attacking player in more than a decade to establish himself as a regular starter for one of Europe’s elite clubs.
Arsenal’s Christos Tzolis transfer yet to be finalized
Neither Arsenal nor Club Brugge have officially announced the transfer, and the final fee structure, including potential bonuses and add-ons, has not yet been disclosed publicly.
Until contracts are signed, the deal remains subject to completion.
