A Greek police officer was arrested by Internal Affairs agents of the Hellenic Police for running an anabolic steroids and pharmaceuticals trafficking ring.
The 35-year-old police officer serving on secondment at the Athens Traffic Police Sub-Directorate is a professional bodybuilder, who, along with his 30-year-old partner who was also arrested, allegedly created a network of buyers to whom they sold the illegal anabolic steroids.
At the same time, they gave instructions to prospective buyers on how to take the said drugs while also receiving the money from the sales.
The supplier was allegedly a 56-year-old Polish man, who traveled by plane to Poland on May 19 and has not been located since then.
Anabolic substances made in the British Virgin Islands
According to the case file, the Polish man person brought the anabolic substances and pharmaceutical preparations from abroad. Along with the police officer they run a company that is active in the market of anabolic steroids, bodybuilding supplements and hormones. The said preparations, as stated, are manufactured in a laboratory based in the British Virgin Islands, which are mainly traded through the black market.
A 40-year-old man, also arrested, was the third party of the ring. The three men allegedly managed the premises where the illegal anabolic substances were stored. From the premises, they either sold the substances directly or supplied to the 35-year-old police officer who in turn proceeded with the sale. They even sold the substances through the Hellenic Post.
The buyers had the option of paying in three different ways. Either by deposit into a bank account, or via IRIS payment to the police officer, or through the digital bank Revolut.
The Europol operation
Based on the telephone communications that the members of the criminal ring exchanged, a Europol operation on May 12 that dismantled a criminal network active in the production, distribution and sale of counterfeit medicines and nutritional supplements, made them change their operation mode.
The 56-year-old Polish man was involved in that ring and he fled Greece to avoid arrest. This made the remaining members of the ring to look for another supplier.
The Europol operation searches had been carried out in 138 companies and storage areas in several countries, including Greece and Poland, and thousands of packages of illegal substance were seized.
The anonymous complaint
An anonymous complaint via e-mail, which reached the Internal Affairs office in August 2025 said that the 35-year-old police officer was trafficking heavy anabolic steroids which he also used himself used, was the trigger for the investigation which led to the dismantling of the criminal ring.
In the same e-mail, it was mentioned that the person in question was selling protection to businessmen on Mykonos, where he was after having falsely taken sick leave from his service.
The unknown sender also reported that the 35-year-old’s partner was trafficking cocaine and that he himself knew clients of hers with great financial standing.
According to the investigation, the members of the ring were operating since at least August 2025. Eleven more individuals are accused of individual acts that are not part of the criminal organization’s framework of action. Among them, a 32-year-old special guard serving in the Patrol Sub-Directorate of the Athens Police Department, a 44-year-old police officer serving in the IETA Police Department and a doctor from the “Andreas Syggros” Hospital for Venereal and Dermatological Diseases.
