The inaugural flight of a highly anticipated direct service connecting the United States and Greece touched down at Athens International Airport (AIA), linking the Greek capital to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) for the first time.

Operated by American Airlines as part of its peak summer schedule, the daily seasonal route utilizes large-capacity widebody aircraft. The addition marks a major milestone for AIA, introducing a direct gateway to Texas—American Airlines’ largest global megahub—and vastly simplifying travel for passengers connecting from across the American South, Midwest, and West Coast.

The decision by the US carrier to launch the route underscores long-term confidence in the Greek tourism market. Despite a complex global landscape marked by economic fluctuations and geopolitical uncertainties, airlines continue to aggressively expand air capacity to Greece, with scheduled transatlantic seats hitting historic highs.

Dallas now marks American Airlines’ fifth direct US gateway to Athens, alongside New York (JFK), Chicago (ORD), Philadelphia (PHL), and Charlotte (CLT).

“Passenger demand for flights to and from cities with rich cultural identities continues to grow. We are seeing more and more customers flocking to destinations where they can travel back in time, exploring history and culture in a way that surpasses any previous experience,” said Vice President – International and Inflight Dining Operations José A. Freig.

“With this route, our passengers in Athens will also have access to our largest hub in the United States, Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), with connections to more than 225 destinations in the US and beyond,” he added.
