Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged other countries, including European nations, to support the Israel-USA war against Iran, warning that the threat extends beyond the region and claiming it had already struck Cyprus.
The Israeli state leader called on Europe and other allies against an enemy he considers is also the enemy of the West.
On March 1, a drone attack hit the RAF Akrotiri base on the island of Cyprus. Additional drones launched on March 1 and March 4 toward Cyprus were intercepted.
“They fired an intercontinental ballistic missile on Diego Garcia. That’s 4,000 kilometers. I have been warning all the time. They now have the capacity to reach deep into Europe. They already have fired on European countries, Cyprus,” Netanyahu said.
Earlier, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Chief Eyal Zamir warned that Iran’s long-range missiles can reach European capitals like Berlin, Paris, and Rome.
The Israeli leader visited the site of a missile strike in the southern city of Arad on Sunday and urged world leaders to join the Israeli-US military campaign against Iran. He cited , Tehran’s recent missile launch targeting the UK-US military base at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.
One of the two fired ballistic missiles was intercepted successfully while the other one failed, but the attack showed that Iran has missiles that can reach far beyond what was assumed or claimed until now.
‘Iran endangers the entire world’
In his statements, Netanyahu stressed that while the international reaction has been restrained so far, “some are starting to move in that direction” and more actively support actions against the Iranian regime, in order to confront the idea of an Iranian nuclear program and Tehran’s influence in the Middle East.
The Israeli PM specifically addressed European leaders about Iran’s threats: “Now they have the ability to reach deep into Europe, they have already opened fire on European countries, Cyprus… They are targeting everyone.”
Iran endangers the entire world, Netanyahu said, stressing that the threat is no longer regional. He said that the war escalates beyond the Middle East, citing Tehran’s aggressive moves in the past 48 hours:
– It carried out attacks on civilians
– It endangered the holy sites of Jerusalem
– It tested intercontinental ballistic missiles with a range of 4,000 km (2,485 ml)
– It blackmails the global energy routes through that Strait of Hormuz
“It’s time to see the leaders of other countries join — some of them are beginning to move in that direction,” Netanyahu said.
Netanyahu stresses the block of Hormuz
Netanyahu stressed the importance of the Strait of Hormuz for international energy transport and Iran’s blocking:
“They are putting everyone in their sights. And [they’re] stopping a maritime international route, energy route, and trying to blackmail the entire world,” the PM said.
“What more proof do you need that this regime that threatens the entire world has to be stopped? Israel and the United States are working together for the entire world. And it’s time to see the leaders of the rest of the countries join up. I’m happy to say that I can see some of them beginning to move in that direction, but more is needed,” he added.
In regards to the attack on Jerusalem, the Israeli leader said: “They fired on Jerusalem, right next to the holy sites of the three monotheistic faiths: the Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and the Al-Aqsa Mosque. By dint of a miracle, none of them were hurt, but they were targeting the holy sites of the three major monotheistic religions.”
