
Greece’s newly appointed Ambassador to the United States, Antonis Alexandridis, formally presented his credentials to President Donald Trump during a ceremony at the White House, underscoring the strength of US–Greece relations.
The event marked the official start of Alexandridis’ tenure in Washington and reaffirmed what both sides described as an exceptionally strong bilateral partnership.
Trump praises Greece and signals visit
During the ceremony, President Trump expressed admiration for Greece and conveyed his intention to visit the country. He also asked the new ambassador to extend his warm greetings to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
In his letter accepting the ambassador’s credentials, Trump highlighted Greece’s consistent leadership role within NATO. He noted that Greece remains on a steady path toward meeting the alliance’s benchmark of allocating 5 percent of GDP to defense spending.
Strategic cooperation and energy security
The US president also emphasized expanding cooperation in key sectors, including energy, trade, and shipbuilding. He referenced the strategic importance of infrastructure initiatives such as the Vertical Corridor, describing the project as critical to regional energy security and a driver of high-quality job creation.
Trump’s letter further underscored the importance his administration places on bilateral ties, making specific mention of US Ambassador to Athens Kimberly Guilfoyle as a sign of confidence in the depth of cooperation between the two governments.

Welcoming Alexandridis to Washington, Trump wrote that he was receiving him at a time when the US–Greece relationship “has never been stronger.” He described the friendship between the two nations as deep-rooted and historic, grounded in shared democratic values and intellectual heritage.
The credentialing ceremony reaffirmed the strategic partnership between Athens and Washington at a time of heightened geopolitical and energy security challenges in the broader region.
