The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially confirmed that Aliki Kallergi, a dual Greek-Swiss citizen, is among the victims of the devastating New Year’s Day fire in the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana. The confirmation was delivered by Swiss authorities to the Greek Embassy in Bern and the Consulate General in Geneva on Sunday.
The fifteen-year-old had been the subject of a desperate search since the blaze broke out at the Le Constellation bar in the early hours of January 1, 2026. Her identity was formally confirmed following a difficult forensic process made necessary by the severity of the fire.
A growing toll
The incident has escalated into one of the most significant tragedies in Alpine history. According to the latest updates:
- The death toll has reached 40, a sharp increase from initial estimates as forensic teams finish identifying victims and several critically injured patients have passed away in hospitals.
- Over 115 people remain injured, with many being treated for third-degree burns in specialized units across Switzerland, France, Italy, and Germany.
- Most victims are reported to be between the ages of 15 and 25.
Family tributes
The teenager’s father, Antonis Kallergi, expressed his profound grief on social media by posting an image of an angel with the name “Alice” on a black background. Her brother, who had previously issued a public plea for information, also shared a moving video tribute featuring clips from their childhood.
Swiss investigators currently believe the fire was ignited by sparklers on champagne bottles that came into contact with the venue’s ceiling. A criminal investigation into the bar’s management for involuntary homicide and safety violations is currently underway.
