Developments are moving rapidly in the case surrounding the sudden death of renowned Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis. Under direct orders from the public prosecutor, Greek Police authorities have arrested the married couple of physicians who operated the private clinic in Kolonaki where the singer suffered a fatal cardiac arrest. Both doctors now face charges of fatal endangerment.
The decision to execute the arrests followed an extensive investigation by Greek Police detectives and forensic specialists, which uncovered key evidence directly contradicting the initial statements provided by the clinic’s operators.
Key Evidence Regarding Plasmapheresis
According to reporting, physical and technical findings recovered from the clinic have dramatically altered investigators’ understanding of how the incident unfolded.
While the defense initially claimed that complications arose before any procedure could begin, forensic analysis of the medical equipment established that the plasmapheresis session was already underway. Furthermore, authorities and the Athens Medical Association are investigating whether the private practice held the required operational licensing and clinical specifications to perform specialized, invasive blood-filtering procedures.
The Three-Hour Gap and Surveillance Footage
A critical factor leading to the arrests was a significant timeline discrepancy uncovered between the doctors’ testimonies and digital evidence.
The lead physician initially testified that the singer arrived at the clinic at approximately 4:30 PM. However, security camera footage gathered from surrounding buildings revealed him entering the facility just after 1:00 PM. This unexplained gap of more than three hours, coupled with conflicting statements given during follow-up interrogations, led prosecutors to order the immediate arrests.
Searches at the Clinic and Private Residence
Police teams carried out an extensive seizure of medical files, digital hard drives, pharmaceuticals, and procedural consumables from the clinic on Korneadou Street. Investigators subsequently executed a search warrant at the couple’s private residence in Psychiko before transporting them to the Athens Police Headquarters.
Investigating magistrates have requested specialized hematological analysis to review clinical protocols, while the victim’s family has appointed independent forensic experts pending the final autopsy and toxicology reports. Both suspects are scheduled to appear before the prosecutor to face formal indictments.
