Greek farmers and livestock producers remain steadfast at the blockades established at the Evzonoi and Niki customs offices on the border with North Macedonia, as well as at Promachonas and Exochi on the Bulgarian border. Today, protesters are proceeding with multi-hour closures affecting both incoming and outgoing traffic.
Specifically, at the Promachonas border crossing, producers have initiated an eight-hour blockade starting at noon today. This mobilization targets international freight trucks exclusively; passenger cars and buses are permitted to pass freely. Truck drivers are present at the site, and the blockade is being bolstered by representatives of other labor unions who scheduled a demonstration for 11:30 a.m. this morning.
Simultaneously, in coordination with their colleagues at Promachonas, farmers from Nevrokopi, Drama, are also implementing an eight-hour blockade (12-8 p.m.). During this window, all truck traffic is prohibited, while passenger vehicles and tour buses are being redirected through alternative routes.
At the Evzonoi crossing, producers decided during their general assembly to block the point for four hours, starting at 6 p.m. This closure applies to all vehicles, including trucks and cars, in both directions, with exceptions made only for emergencies. Finally, producers at the Niki customs office have decided to block truck traffic tonight from 7-11 p.m.
Mitsotakis announces €160 million support for Greek farmers
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, announced additional support of €160 million ($187.3 million) for farmers during a contentious parliamentary debate that ended with approval of the budget.
He also proposed the establishment of a cross-party committee that would work within a four-month deadline to identify problems facing farmers and producers and draw up consensual, binding proposals applicable to future governments as well.
