A 22-year-old student has died in Greece, seven days after being hospitalized for attempting to swallow a whole burger as part of a social media challenge circulating on platforms like TikTok.
The young man was rushed to G. Gennimatas Hospital in critical condition, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. According to a representative from the medical staff, the victim suffered irreversible damage to vital organs soon after the incident, and his parents were informed early on about the high probability of this fatal outcome.
The injury occurred when the burger completely blocked his airways, depriving him of oxygen for two whole minutes. Friends who were present reported that the student experienced a severe panic attack after struggling to breathe and as a result of pain, before collapsing at the restaurant. He was transported to the hospital by an EKAV ambulance, where doctors fought to save his life over the following week.
