The Hellenic Initiative (THI) hosted its sold-out 9th Annual London Gala on October 9 at The Dorchester, raising a record-breaking $512,000 to expand its economic development and humanitarian aid programs across Greece and Cyprus.
The flagship event, which has cemented its reputation as the “it” philanthropic gathering for Hellenes and Philhellenes in London, featured an electrifying performance by Konstantinos Argiros, Greece’s number one recording artist of his generation.
THI London Gala: Honoring impact and service
The much-anticipated gala celebrated two exceptional THI grantees for their vital work: Make-A-Wish Greece and Wise Greece.
Make-A-Wish Greece: Recognized for granting over 4,000 wishes since 1996 to children facing life-threatening illnesses, bringing them hope and joy. Board President Eleni Konstantinidi and Board Member Konstantine Antonopoulos received the award from THI International Ambassador Princess Tatiana Blatnik.
Wise Greece: Honored for their dual mission to promoting the benefits of the Mediterranean diet and supporting small Greek producers. Profits from their product sales are converted into essential food supplies for children, homeless families, and elderly citizens living below the poverty line. Founder Melina Taprantzi accepted the recognition from THI Board Member Peter Poulos.
Global leaders gather in support
The gala, hosted by THI leaders Nikos Stathopoulos, Constantine Logothetis, Peter Poulos, and Princess Tatiana Blatnik, drew distinguished guests from the political and business spheres.
Key attendees included Greek government officials such as Defense Minister Nikos Dendias and Ambassador to the UK Ioannis Tsaousis. Newly-appointed Ambassador to Greece Kimberley Guilfoyle and Ambassador to Cyprus and Ukraine Julie Davis represented the United States. THI’s new Executive Director Mike Manatos and THI UK’s first Managing Director Vasiliki Koutoupi were also present among the global leadership team.
THI Board Member Nikos Stathopoulos reflected on the evening’s energy:
“This night was filled with hope, generosity, and Greek ‘philotimo’ that again demonstrated that THI has created a powerful network of support, embodying our shared commitment to Greece, and strengthening our mission of real impact and unity.”
Constantine Logothetis added:
“It is deeply gratifying that THI’s reach across the world and the generations continues to grow. Our Gala brought together friends, supporters, and visionaries who share one mission: to give back to Greece and create a brighter future.”
THI’s enduring legacy
THI remains the only global non-profit that unites Hellenes and Philhellenes around philanthropy, dedicated to investing in the future of Greece and Cyprus. Since its founding in 2012, THI has contributed over $24 million in direct aid through more than 360 grants, with an estimated overall contribution to the Greek GDP of over $500 million.
You can join THI at the 13th Annual New York Gala on December 6 at Cipriani Wall Street. Details here
