Four-year-old Aris, a bright and brave Greek boy battling leukemia, had a dream as big as the skies: he wanted to become a pilot. Despite the challenges of his illness, Aris’s spirit remained high, and his one heartfelt wish was simple—to fly a large plane and wear a pilot’s uniform. Thanks to the incredible efforts of Make-A-Wish International, Aris’s dream took flight in the most magical way.

On the big day, Aris arrived at the airport to discover a custom-made pilot uniform waiting just for him, complete with his name and shiny wings. With excitement in his eyes and pride in his step, he boarded a commercial jet and was warmly welcomed by the flight crew. As he walked confidently down the aisles of the aircraft, passengers and crew alike cheered for their youngest pilot.

To add to the emotional aspect of the day, a veteran pilot presented Aris with a special medal, symbolizing courage, strength, and the limitless power of dreams. For a few unforgettable hours, Aris wasn’t just a child fighting leukemia—he was Captain Aris, flying high above his diagnosis and into a world where the impossible seemed within reach.

Make-A-Wish has been turning dreams into reality for over forty years, providing moments of joy, strength, and hope to children facing critical illnesses. Aris’s story is a beautiful reminder that even the smallest dream can lift us to great heights, and, on that day, Aris didn’t just fly—he soared.

Aris’s dream realized through Make-A-Wish

Make-A-Wish traces its inspiration to Christopher James Greicius, an energetic 7-year-old boy battling leukemia who wished to be a police officer. In 1980, his Phoenix community came together to make his wish come true. Little did Chris know that his wish would lead to a movement that would transform millions of lives.

Today, Make-A-Wish has been granting life-changing wishes for children and families for over forty years. After Make-A-Wish was established in the United States in 1980, the organization went global, and Make-A-Wish International was officially formed in 1993 to serve five countries outside the US. It now serves children outside the United States in nearly fifty countries and territories around the world.

With the help of our donors and more than 27,000 volunteers around the world, Make-A-Wish has collectively granted more than 615,000 wishes worldwide.

According to Make-A-Wish, as a global community, the organization is focused on the impact of a wish in every phase of the wish journey.

“Wishes have proven physical and emotional benefits that can give children with critical illnesses a higher chance of survival. And wishes not only help these children—they also have far-reaching, positive impacts on their families and communities. In other words, wishes are the driving force behind all we do because, put simply, wish experiences transform lives,” it was added.
