With OpenAI and its well-known ChatGPT at the forefront, the artificial intelligence space has seen a huge increase in popularity and clients.
ChatGPT-5, the newest and most sophisticated language model to be made available to the general public, is the subject of the most recent media and AI community excitement.
Here is what we now know so far about this significant move that is expected to be made by OpenAI.
ChatGPT-5 will be the next evolution of OpenAI’s Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) series, following the footsteps of its predecessors, GPT-3 and GPT-4.
Currently, its latest and most advanced version is ChatGPT-4o, with “o” standing for “omni,” a Latin word that means “everything.”
This new model is definitely expected to excel at the forefront of natural language processing, offering its users even more advanced and enhanced reasoning abilities than what they get now.
Additionally, ChatGPT-5 is expected to include more advanced multi-modal functionalities and deeper contextual understanding that will help its users complete evermore complicated tasks. Potentially, it would redefine how people interact with AI altogether, making conversations even more human-like and intuitive compared to ChatGPT-4o or Google’s Gemini.
When will ChatGPT-5 be released?
Understandably, there is a lot of speculation and a number of statements from people who claim they know what OpenAI is planning. These reports suggest that ChatGPT-5 will be released in late 2024 or early 2025. However, there is currently no official release date, and as 2024 draws to a close and 2025 gets underway, there may be more rumors.
In order to prevent any possible negative reaction, OpenAI is now concentrating on the Herculean task of training and testing this incredibly sophisticated model, which includes the essential safety checks known as “red teaming” to make sure the AI model is both strong and morally sound for general public use.
In recent interviews, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has stated that ChatGPT-5 will represent a substantial advancement over the already sophisticated GPT-4 model.
ChatGPT-5 is expected to boast improved reliability, customizability, and the ability to process and generate content across various modalities, including text, speech, images, code, and even videos.
This expansion in multi-modal capabilities—particularly videos—is expected to open new doors to applications in content creation, programming assistance, and real-time data analysis that could prove to be particularly innovative.
While an exact pricing model for ChatGPT-5 remains unknown to the public, it is anticipated that like its predecessors, it might be available through a subscription service, potentially mirroring the ChatGPT Plus plan, which costs 20 dollars per month.
However, OpenAI may also offer a free tier with limited features in a similar way as was done with ChatGPT-4o.
