The world’s first artificial intelligence-generated candidate for Member of Parliament (MP) is set to shake up democracy when he runs in Brighton on July 4th.
The individual behind this AI candidate, Steve Endacott, describes himself as a capitalist with a socialist conscience. He sees himself not as the main player but as a vessel for his AI alter-ego. If elected, he’ll physically be present in Parliament to cast votes on policies determined by his AI counterpart.
When constituents reach out with questions or concerns, they’ll interact with an avatar and hear responses in Steve Endacott’s voice. This innovative AI was crafted by a team of ten young individuals at Neural Voice, Endacott’s company, as reported by The Independent.
In his first interview with The Independent, Endacott shared, “I will do the physical voting but I will be directed entirely by my constituents via AI Steve.”
“I’m just a bit of a numpty being told what to do,” he added further. “That is the whole idea of democracy. You have to put away your own personal politics, your own ego and actually do what your constituents want, which is quite radical in politics.”
Urged by Conservative HQ to run as a councilor in Rochdale
The semi-retired investor, Steve Endacott, expressed his frustration with traditional politics after being urged by Conservative HQ to run as a councilor in Rochdale, a place where he had no chance of winning.
“I thought, what’s the point?” he said.

“It’s an old boys and girls club and they took me to coffee morning with old people to buy them coffee,” Endacott said. “They told me these are the only people you need to talk to, they are the only ones who get out to vote.”
“They didn’t care about social media because young people don’t vote in local council elections,” he explained. “I thought this can’t be right. To me, it was very clear the MPs were completely disconnected from the constituents.”
Optimistic more AI Bots will join the Smarter UK party
Endacott mentioned that his party, Smarter UK, missed the registration deadline for the snap election due to a technical mistake by the Electoral Commission.
Consequently, he will run as an Independent candidate on July 4th. However, he remains optimistic, hoping that more AI Bots will join his party in the future.
AI Steve has ambitious plans for the future. By 2030, he aims to implement a four-day workweek, as AI continues to impact job availability.
Additionally, he proposes expanding prison capacity. He would also aim to eliminate London’s ULEZ low emission charge, raise national insurance, and equip garbage trucks with transmitters. These transmitters will monitor their routes to address overflowing bins in the seaside town.
