A video emerged believed to be the last-known sighting of British TV presenter Michael Mosley who disappeared under mysterious circumstances on the Greek island of Symi on Wednesday.
Mosley was last seen by CCTV at a grey-stoned house beside the harbor in the small town of Pedi wearing a pair of shorts, a blue polo shirt, a baseball cap and sunglasses. He was holding a black umbrella to protect himself from the sun.
He may have walked along a steep uphill concrete road. At the end of the street, a small path leads into the rocky landscape with little vegetation beyond thistles and dry grass.
The video confirms that Mosley had already crossed the dangerous coastal path from the beach of Agios Nikolaos. It seems that the British presented continued on foot, instead of taking the local bus to reach his accommodation at the capital of Symi, Yialos.
Eleftherios Papakaloudoukas, the mayor of Symi, questioned how anyone could survive in the heat that topped 40C on the day Mosley disappeared. He added the area where Mosley is believed to have travelled through is “difficult to pass” and is “only rocks”. It is also populated by “loads” of snakes, he said.
“Instead of following the road to Gyalos, he seems to have preferred to go around the port, in Pedi. We do not know what this man might have had in mind,” the mayor told Proto Thema.
“Either he went to Agia Marina (a beach north of Pedi) which is a very difficult path and the prevailing weather conditions were over 40 degrees Celsius at that time, or he preferred to climb this whole mountain which is difficult, and go to Gyalos. If that was his choice, it was a big mistake,” he added.
Search for Mosley on Symi to continue
The mayor said there is “no chance” the search will be called off until he is found. The extensive search operation which has involved police, firefighters with drones, and divers, continues on Saturday.
Mosley’s four children have arrived on Symi and are set to help with the search. His wife, Dr Claire Bailey, has been searching the island joined by her British friends.
On Friday, the mayor’s daughter Mika Papakalodouka told the PA news agency that “a lot of” island residents had joined the search using their own boats to find the British national.
“It is a small island, people talk. We’re good people actually here. Everybody is looking for him,” the 20-year-old told PA.
“It’s such a small island to get lost on. It’s so weird for us. Everybody is worried and looking for him.”
