NBA’s Giannis Antetokounmpo has signed on to produce his first scripted feature movie in Greece under his Improbable Media production company, Variety reported.

The project is described as “an Ocean’s Eleven-style heist comedy set in Greece” from Studio Galazio and filmmaker Christopher André Marks under their new production banner that is “focused on bringing internationally minded stories with Greek themes to global audiences.”

Marks is set to write and direct the film, which also has a veteran team of producers including Shani Hinton, Raphaël Benoliel, Adam B. Stern and Erika Aronson. The plot details and international cast are being “kept under wraps” for now. Production is expected to begin later this year, Variety reported.

“We are excited to shine additional light and join the wave of momentum Greek cinema has generated internationally, not only as a high-value shooting location for domestic and foreign productions, but also as a fertile ground for original storytelling that transcends well beyond its borders,” said Marks.

Marks is the CEO of Galazio and notably the co-producer and director of ‘King Otto’, a documentary that follows the 2004 Greek national soccer team from never winning a single tournament match to taking home the Euro Championship.

The film was released theatrically and on streaming platforms in over 70 territories, making it one of the widest-distributed independent Greek films of all time.

Galazio’s slate of Greek-themed films and TV series will be the latest in a recent run of projects with Greek themes.

Netflix’s first Greek original series ‘Maestro in Blue’ and the many high-profile international productions that have recently shot in Greece such as Rian Johnson’s Netflix blockbuster ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ and the Maggie Gyllenhaal-directed ‘The Lost Daughter’.

Antetokounmpo will play in Olympic qualifiers for Greece

Keeping busy off the court, Antetokounmpo will still be focused on his game as he is set to play in the Olympic qualifiers for Greece.

Antetokounmpo missed a large amount of playoff time due to injury for the second consecutive year, and supporters hoped he would focus on recovery and preparing for the 2024-25 NBA season.

But Antetokounmpo will now be back on the court, leading Greece in their mission to achieve Olympic qualification in Piraeus.

In January Antetokounmpo became the third player in NBA history to average 32-plus points, 13-plus rebounds, and 7-plus assists on 55 percent field goals in a 10-game span within a single season. This places him among the ranks of Nikola Jokic and Wilt Chamberlain.
