This week, an exchange on Twitter appeared to show that Elon Musk supports reserving voting rights exclusively to parents.
Musk, who is himself the father of ten children, is not shy about sharing his views on public platforms like Twitter or during televised interviews. He is also no stranger to controversy and has been criticized by some for his stance on certain subjects.
Musk, who acquired Twitter in October last year, shared his views on the platform during an online discussion with another Twitter user on Sunday. The Twitter CEO frequently interacts with other users and shares his thoughts.
Elon Musk discusses limiting voting rights to parents
In response to a series of posts from Twitter user @fentasyl, which put forth the argument that “democracy is probably unworkable long term without limiting suffrage to parents,” the billionaire Tesla co-founder signaled his agreement with the concise response, “Yup.”
The post by @fentasyl was itself a reply to an earlier tweet posted by Musk. “The childless have little stake in the future,” Musk had written in response to a debate about the Muslim population in France.
Yup

Musk has previously expressed concerns about demographic decline and falling birthrates in the US and the West. Last year, he tweeted that “A collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilization faces by far.”
Earlier this year, Musk told former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson “I’m sort of worried that hey, civilization, if we don’t make enough people to at least sustain our numbers, perhaps increase a little bit, then civilization’s going to crumble.”
“The old question of, will civilization end with a bang or a whimper?” he added.
On another occasion, Musk told a biographer that “If each successive generation of smart people has fewer kids, that’s probably bad.”
Overpopulation or demographic decline?
The question of whether humanity is facing overpopulation or demographic decline is a topic of ongoing debate among experts. Different regions of the world may experience varying demographic trends, making it challenging to provide a definitive answer.
Overpopulation proponents argue that the global population is increasing at an unsustainable rate, putting excessive strain on Earth’s resources. They point out that rapid population growth leads to various issues such as increased pollution, depletion of natural resources, overcrowding in cities, and food scarcity. They emphasize the need for population control measures to ensure a sustainable future for humanity.
On the other hand, proponents of demographic decline contend that certain regions, particularly in developed countries, are experiencing declining birth rates and an aging population. They argue that this trend can lead to economic challenges, labor shortages, and strain on social security systems. They advocate for policies to encourage population growth, such as incentives for larger families or immigration policies that attract younger workers.
