George Logothetis, Executive Chairman of Libra Group, will host US President Joe Biden for a fundraising dinner to be held at his New York residence on May 10.

Logothetis, who has built an international business group with assets and operations across nearly 60 countries, is a lifelong supporter of the Democrats. He has also previously hosted Barack and Michelle Obama for a similar dinner in 2015.

Logothetis and his family members have been regular donors to the Democratic Party, according to data from the nonpartisan OpenSecrets.

Biden’s first NYC fundraising event at Logothetis’ home

The dinner is the President’s first NYC fundraising event since he announced his plans to run for re-election in April.

It was also announced that on the same day, May 10th, he will attend an event at the home of Hamilton ‘Tony’ James, 72, a former Blackstone executive worth around $3.3 billion who has previously hosted similar fundraisers for Biden and former president Barack Obama.

The Biden fundraising events signal early support for the incumbent among wealthy Democrat donors. They are scheduled to take place one day after the president is set to meet with congressional leaders at the White House to discuss the debt ceiling.

Libra Group includes 30 operating entities

Logothetis who was the Grand Marshal of the New York Greek Independence Day Parade last weekend, is a proud Greek American who is spending much of his fortune on philanthropic projects.

At the age of 19, he became CEO of his family’s company, Lomar Shipping, which had three vessels at that time. The shipping business was grown into a modern and diversified 55-vessel fleet over 10 years, after which he founded Libra Group in 2003 at the age of 28.

Today, Libra Group includes 30 operating entities: 20 businesses predominately focused on aviation, energy, maritime, real estate, hospitality, and diversified industries, as well as 10 social initiatives.

The Group applies the strength of this global network and its capabilities to deliver cross-sector insights and growth at scale, while supporting human potential, thus combining growth with philanthropy.

The Group’s 10 social initiatives provide opportunities across the globe to support human potential.

This includes providing educational opportunities, business opportunities, and humanitarian support around the world. One of these initiatives is the Seleni Institute, a New York-based, independent non-profit maternal mental health institute founded by George and his wife Nitzia.

Logothetis is Co-Chairman of the Leadership Council of Concordia; a member of the Board of Directors of President Barack Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Alliance; a member of the American Democracy Month Council’s Board of Directors; and an Advisory Board Member of the Genius 100 Foundation.
