Croatia is the winner of the third place at the FIFA World Cup 2022, having defeated Morocco 2-1 at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar on Saturday.

Earlier this week, Morocco’s odds-defying journey to the top came to an end when the team was defeated 1-0 by France a day after Croatia lost 3-0 to an unstoppable Argentina, which led the defeated teams to today’s third place playoff.

Having beaten Morocco, France will face one final test by Argentina on Sunday. If France wins, it will be the first team to win back-to-back World Cup tournaments since Brazil’s accomplishment in 1958 and 1962 sixty years ago.

World Cup Croatia vs Morocco goals

The game went into half-time with Croatia leading the score 2-1. Achraf Dari for Morocco and Josko Gvardiol for Croatia provided their sides with early goals.

It was then Mislav Orsic who smashed the second goal for Croatia, giving his team the 2-1 lead over Morocco.

Morocco team leaves with records

Although Morocco bowed out with the fourth spot, its football team made history at the world-famous tournament by becoming the first-ever African team to reach its semi-finals.

With this game, the Moroccan duo of Hakim Ziyech and Achraf Hakimi have equaled Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Al-Daeyea record of the most appearances by an Arab player at the FIFA World Cup.
