New Super Yacht Concept Features a Gaping Hole

The Shape, a yacht featuring an impressive hole in the middle of the vessel, is the latest super yacht design from the Italian company Lazzarini.

The striking shape of the aptly named 69-meter yacht features a large hole in the middle of the vessel. The “hole deck” has steps that lead to sea level and can be customized according to the owner’s wishes.

The upper deck, situated just above the “hole deck,” boasts an infinity pool with a glass bottom. The yacht is perfect for those looking to entertain, as it features six suites with room for up to 12 guests.

The $80 million Shape also features a number of luxury amenities, including a beach club with a diving board and even a helipad.

The super yacht is notable not just for its impressive hole design, but also because it will run entirely on clean energy sources, including hydrogen, electricity, and solar power.The vessel has a max speed of 24 knots, and 12 knots when on full electric mode.

If a purchaser is interested in the design, it would take just over a year and a half to build.

Another impressive design from the Italian company, Saturnia, is unlike any vessel on the market, as it features its own port.

The 100 meter (328 foot) long yacht features its own private port on board, which would allow smaller vessels to dock inside of the boat itself.

The boat’s dockyard would allow vessels up to 1.5 meters long to enter through two ports on the side of the yacht and moor inside of the vessel itself.

The innovative design for the yacht calls for dry carbon fiber, which would make the vessel much lighter than other boats of a similar size that are currently available.

What is it like to own a super yacht?

While the price of a yacht itself is often massive, numbering in the hundreds of millions of dollars, the costs of operating the luxurious vessels can be even greater.

According to yacht insurers, most people who own yachts end up paying 10% of their initial purchase cost each year on using and maintaining their boat.

While the cost of insurance itself can amount to nearly $100,000, one of the biggest costs of owning a yacht is purchasing fuel, which easily costs hundreds of thousands of dollars each year.

Another large expense is paying members of the crew. Depending on the size of the yacht and the length of travel, giving out paychecks to crew members can rack up to be nearly one million dollars a year.

Additionally, ports charge yacht owners a fee when they dock there, and the costs can increase exponentially during the high tourist season at particularly popular destinations in the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

Despite these tremendous expenses, the super yacht business has been booming in 2021, and many believe it has something to do with the pandemic.

Yacht owners may feel that their vessel affords them great freedom to travel at a time when there are countless restrictions on movement in place to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

So far, over one billion dollars have been spent on massive yachts this year.
