The number of the daily cases of the coronavirus in Greece remained elevated on Tuesday, as 3,565 total cases were recorded across the country.

The current figure marks 1,731 more instances of the virus than the 1,834 cases that had been recorded on Monday.

A total of seven of Tuesday’s cases were identified during routine Covid-19 testing of tourists at the country’s borders.

Currently, there are 121 patients with the coronavirus on ventilators in Greece, which is two fewer than the number of patients undergoing the invasive treatment in the country yesterday, Monday.

Tragically, nine people suffering from the coronavirus passed away in the country over the past 24-hour period, which is one more than those who died with the virus on Monday.

466 cases of the Delta variant found in Greece

The Delta variant of Covid-19, first discovered in India, has quickly spread across Greece.

A total of 466 cases of the variant, which has been linked to more severe cases of the coronavirus, were discovered in Greece after tests of 856 samples taken from the period of June 17 to July 12 were completed on Monday.

Nearly 300 other samples examined during that period were linked to other coronavirus variants.

1,607 coronavirus cases in Attica, 334 in Crete

Of the 3,565 new coronavirus cases recorded in Greece in the past 24 hours, a stunning 1,607 were located in Attica, home to the Greek capital city of Athens.

In the city of Athens, a total of 375 cases of Covid-19 were identified Tuesday.

A total of 334 coronavirus cases were found in Crete, where the delta variant has taken hold. Officials and specialists speculate that the fast-spreading Delta variant is behind the sudden surge in cases on the Greek island.

In Thessaloniki, the second-largest city in Greece, 254 cases of the virus were identified on Tuesday.

Over 400,000 cases of Covid-19 recorded in Greece
