Greece Announces Large Decrease in Coronavirus Infections, Deaths

Greek health authorities announced on Wednesday that there were a total of 1,517 cases of the coronavirus diagnosed in the country over the past day – a large decrease from yesterday, Tuesday, when there were 2,433 cases, which was a huge spike over Monday’s total of 1,381.

The new laboratory-confirmed cases of Covid-19 recorded in the last 24 hours included no infections whatsoever that were detected in checks at the country’s gates over the last day.

The total number of coronavirus cases diagnosed in Greece since the beginning of the pandemic amounts to 395,094, of which 51.2% are men. There were 657 people diagnosed with the virus in Athens alone, with 207 of these cases located in the center of the city.

Based on the confirmed cases of the last seven days, 27 were considered to be related to travel from abroad and 2,036 were related to an already known case.

The EODY, Greece’s health authority, announced that there were far fewer deaths associated with the virus over the past 24 hours, numbering 44. Yesterday there had been 50 deaths in those who had suffered with the virus.

A total of 11,916 deaths have been recorded in the country since the beginning of the pandemic last year. Nearly all, or 95.1%, suffered from underlying disease and / or were age 70 years and older.

Large increase in hospitalizations over past day

The number of patients currently being treated by the invasive method of intubation is 547; 62.3% of theses individuals are male. Their median age is 67 years. The vast majority of them, 84.6%, also suffer from an underlying disease and / or are age 70 years and older.

A total of 2,391 patients have been discharged from the ICU since the beginning of the pandemic.

The admissions of new coronavirus patients in Greek hospitals was 250, showing a disturbing increase of + 28.87%. The average number of admissions over the last seven days is 244 patients.

The median age of all those now diagnosed with the disease is 44 years, while the median age of death associated with Covid is 78 years.

The geographical distribution of the majority of the 1,517 new cases of coronavirus is as follows:

25 cases in P.E. Heraklion

51 cases in P.E. Of Larissa

A total of 65 cases are currently under investigation as of Wednesday, according to the EODY.
