Greece Records 2,167 New Coronavirus Cases; 55 Deaths

Greek health authorities confirmed a total of 2,167 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, with just three of these identified at entry points to the country, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said on Thursday.

This is a slight decrease from the 2,489 people who had been diagnosed on Wednesday. Since the pandemic began, Greece has confirmed a total of 371,693 infections, showing a daly increase of +0.6 percent, including all those who have recovered from the virus.

Of all the confirmed cases over the past week, a total of 51 infections were determined to have been related to travel from abroad and 2,665 were linked to other existing cases.

There were 55 deaths associated with the coronavirus recorded in the last 24 hours, fifteen fewer than the 70 deaths that were recorded on Wednesday, bringing the total number of those who have succumbed with the disease to 11,266.

Of these, 95.2 percent suffered from an underlying condition and/or were aged 70 or above,

A total of 683 patients are now on ventilators in hospitals, down from a total of 707 the day prior. Their median age is 67 years and 82.9 percent suffer from an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or over.

Another 2,238 have been discharged from ICUs since the pandemic began.

In addition, 293 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours, fewer than the 318 who had been discharged on Wednesday, for a daily change of -7.86 percent. The average number of hospital admissions of patients suffering from Covid-19 over the last seven days comes to 346.

The median age of new infections is now 44 years  — the same figure as was determined yesterday —  while the median age of the deceased is 78.
