Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson Celebrate 33 Years of Marriage

Rita Wilson shared a beautiful post on social media to commemorate the 33rd anniversary  she shares with Tom Hanks on May 1.

The Greek-American actress posted a photo of the couple in the Greek islands, smiling and wearing white. She captioned it, “33 years of marriage to my BFF, my lover, my man. Love wins.” Her 1 million followers were quick to share their love for and support of the couple.

After being married to a Greek woman for so long, Hanks has in some ways become Greek himself. Not only does the A-list actor retain a residence in Antiparos; he was recently granted Greek citizenship as well. Hanks is also an active member of the Greek Orthodox church and community.

In fact, Hanks frequently talks about his love for Greece and the Greek people publicly. In 2020 he told Greek Reporter that “Greece is a haven.” He added, “I have been to the most beautiful places in the world, none of them tops Greece; the sky, the water, it’s good for the soul.”

Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks’ 33rd Anniversary – How They Met

Hanks and Wilson met in 1981 on the set of a sitcom called “Bosom Buddies”. Though Hanks was married to his college sweetheart at the time, the two were on rocky ground and soon separated.

The couple got married in 1988. They have two sons together, Chet and Truman, currently 30 and 25 years old.

The celebrity duo has definitely had their shares of ups and downs throughout the years. Rita Wilson faced a heartbreaking breast cancer diagnosis in 2015. She managed to overcome it, with Hanks by her side throughout the ordeal.

In 2020, the two were some of the first people to be publicly diagnosed with COVID-19 while Hanks was filming a movie in Australia. Both were quarantined and dealt with the disease quite well, experiencing relatively mild symptoms.

Future Projects for the Couple

Perhaps even more surprisingly, so close to their 32nd anniversary, Hanks and Wilson seemed to pass the time with each other in quarantine fairly happily.

The two maintain a loving marriage while also focusing on their busy careers. Wilson is a singer and songwriter in addition to being an actress. Just last year she collaborated on the song “Pink” to support those fighting breast cancer. She also sang on the soundtrack for “The Outpost”, performing the song “Everybody Cries.”

In the months before his anniversary, Tom Hanks returned to Australia to resume filming his Elvis biopic. The first Western film the actor stars in, “News of the World,” was also released on Christmas Day 2020.

Especially in an industry full of frequent divorces and brief marriages, Hanks’ and Wilson’s lasting, joyful relationship is a testament to the power of love and commitment.
