Nia Vardalos took to Instagram on April 7 to share updates on “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3”. Fans have been waiting to hear about the highly anticipated sequel to her hit 2002 comedy.
The actress and producer confirmed on social media that a second sequel to the original film is in the works. Apparently someone had already found out and leaked the news. Vardalos has been trying to write a script for the past year.
“Yes, it is true that for over a year we have been trying to film a script that I wrote called ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3’,” she says in the video, adding that, “of course the entire cast is invited back.”
However, she also stated that because it’s an independent film they cannot go ahead and shoot. “Independent films cannot get insurance”, Vardalos shared on social media.
The actress even joked about the requests she’s been getting from fans for the film. “Although I love your enthusiasm, maybe some of you can stop calling my mum’s house and asking if you can be in it”, Vardalos added.
“My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3” Filming in Greece
Vardalos told all her Greek and Greek diaspora fans the best part of the news next. When “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3” finally films, they will shoot it in Greece!
This comes on the heels of many Hollywood movies flocking to shoot in Greece thanks to the great tax rebate program for filming. Over 18 international productions will shoot in Greece in 2021. This is an extraordinary number in the midst of the pandemic which has caused a general slowdown.
Vardalos asked her audience for help. She said, “if you know someone who wants to insure an independent film, you are cordially invited to this wedding, and to slide into my DMs”.
Fans of the movie, starring Nia Vardalos, John Corbett, Michael Constantine, and Elena Kampouris in the sequel, can’t wait to see the next installment.
