George Kimoulis, the well-known Greek actor and director, has just been booted from the Athens and Epidaurus Festivals, according to an official statement released on Monday.

The festival management made the decision, according to which Kimoulis will not feature on the roster of the acclaimed drama series due to what it said was multiple accusations of mental and physical abuse on the part of other actors.

The Athens and Epidaurus Festival management state that it was not attempting “to act vindictively, nor to replace the courts.” However, they felt compelled to sever all ties with the actor on the grounds of the gravity of the accusations.

Kimoulis had been slated to act in the play “Philoctetes” by Sophocles, which is to run at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus in the summer of 2021. The festival’s management stated that they are in talks regarding how to proceed now that Kimoulis has been removed from the playbill.

Fellow actor Zeta Douka had recently accused the actor, who is widely regarded as one of the best thespians in the country, of severe verbal abuse. She even alleged that Kimoulis   kicked her once during a performance.

In what was a similar trajectory to what occurred recently, sparking the Greek#MeToo movement, in which a prominent sailing official was accused of rape, at least eight other actors — both male and female — have now accused Kimoulis of similar behavior to what Douka says she had to endure.

Taking place in some of the world’s most ancient theaters and venues, the Athens and Epidaurus Festival is one of Greece’s most significant annual cultural events, featuring hosts of acclaimed Greek and international artists and groups.
