The Island of Crete is the destination most British vacationers dream about when the pan-European lockdown is lifted.

According to new research from TravelSupermarket, the Greek island was the most searched for hotspot by Brits, especially for seven-night getaways.

The price comparison site looked at searches in January for holidays between May 1 and October 31 and discovered that Crete tops the wish list. Another Greek island, Santorini, is in eighth place.

Tenerife was the second most popular spot, while the Maldives was third.

It’s not yet clear when restrictions could be lifted – or what travel will look like during the summer months – but the TravelSupermarket research shows that Brits are still hopeful that a getaway could be on the cards.

The beauty of Crete

Crete is the largest island in Greece and the fifth largest one in the Mediterranean Sea.

Here, you can admire the remnants of brilliant civilizations, explore glorious beaches, impressive mountainscapes, fertile valleys, and steep gorges, and become part of the island’s rich gastronomic culture.

Crete is, after all, a small universe teeming with beauties and treasures that you will probably need a lifetime to uncover.
