Supermarket Chains in Greece Announce Generous Bonuses for Their Staff

During these difficult times for all of us, doctors, nurses and carers have been at the forefront of the global fight against the coronavirus pandemic, receiving very well-deserved accolades and praise for their unstinting work in tough conditions.
However, another professional category is also trying its utmost to keep our societies going — the one that allows us to put food on our tables each and every day.
This category includes the people who work in supermarkets, who are trying to do their very best to offer their services during this time of social distancing.
For this reason, one Greek supermarket after the other in the last few days has been announcing generous bonuses which will be paid to their staff as a ”thank you” for all their hard and sometimes perilous work during the pandemic.
The owners of the AB Vasilopoulos chain of supermarkets announced on Wednesday that the will pay a total of €3,000,000 to their staff as a gesture of gratitude for their services recently.
”A big thank you for your titanic effort so that nothing is missing from Greek households!” an AB Vasilopoulos statement reads.
This comes only a few days after two other large supermarket chains in Greece announced generous bonus packages for their employees.
Greece’s Sklavenitis supermarkets, as well as those belonging to the Masoutis chain, the first particularly popular in southern Greece and the second in the north, announced bonuses to their staffs as well.
Sklavenitis will offer a total of five million euros to their employees while Masoutis has said that it will share 30 percent of its annual profits with all of its staff.
Earlier in March, Lidl Hellas had also announced a bonus of €1.8 million for its supermarket employees.
It looks like the coronavirus pandemic has shown to the entire world how, at times, some of the most humble jobs can actually be the most important ones in all of society.
