Coronavirus: Greece Announces New Measures to Assist Employees and Businesses

Greece’s Ministries of Finances, Growth and Investments, and Labor announced a series of additional measures to assist individuals and businesses who are getting hit by the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.
The measures include thousands of additional nurses and doctors to staff the Greek National Health System, as well as buying all necessary equipment to provide the best possible treatment to patients.
It is noted that the additional money Greece’s National Health System will receive is in excess of €200 million.
Another measure introduced is the facilitation in public and private sectors for employees to work different hours, or from home; any additional costs associated with this will be shared by businesses and the state.
In addition, businesses which are obliged to shut down will not have to pay any taxes or national insurance contributions the Ministries announced.
A series of other measures were announced, including financial and social-security handouts to employees who need to stop working or take a leave of absence.
Athens has been demanding that Brussels adopt a much more flexible fiscal policy, allowing member states to assist their people and businesses while assisting directly with more money to those states as well.
