European Investment Bank Offers €200M to Support Infrastructure in Evros, North Aegean

The European Investment Bank will offer 200 million euros to Greece for the support of infrastructure works due to the recent migration-related developments on the islands of the northeastern Aegean and in Evros, it was made public on Friday.
Greek Migration and Asylum Minister Notis Mitarachi and EIB Vice President Andrew McDowell met together in Athens, where the announcement was made.
The financial support will be channeled to the sectors of health, sanitation and water supply as well as to other sectors of vital importance.
Additionally, the European Investment Bank plans to extend the financial support program to other regions affected by the migrant crisis.
McDowell held a meeting with Greek Premier Kyriakos Mitsotakis as well while in the Greek capital.
“New financing for small business in areas impacted by the migration crisis is essential for host communities on islands most impacted by the crisis,” McDowell stated.
“The EIB’s firm support for new private sector investment, as well as water sanitation, health and housing investments, will help Greece to accelerate assistance for migrants, refugees and host communities in regions most impacted by the current crisis,” he added.
