The traffickers are believed to have systematically transported significant quantities of cocaine from St. Vincent Island in the Caribbean to countries in Europe and northwest Africa.
The drug enforcement unit of the Hellenic Police, the Port Authority and the financial crime unit of the Ministry of Finance participated in the operation, along with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
Eight men were arrested, most of them Albanian nationals. The cocaine was found hidden in a complex of rented rooms in Astakos.
