Tina Fey has been tapped to produce a comedy series titled “Girls5Eva” for NBC’s new streaming service, Peacock.
The story follows a 90s girl group who rises and then fades quickly from fame after becoming a one-hit wonder. Years later, the girls reunite to give their dreams of music stardom one last shot.
For “Girls5Eva”, Fey is once again partnering with writer Meredith Scardino, with whom she worked on the hit Netflix series “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”.
Fey has had a long-standing relationship with NBC dating back to her days as a writer and performer on “Saturday Night Live”. She then went on to create, produce, write and star in the hit series “30 Rock” on the network as well.
Since NBCUniversal is partnering up with Comcast for the launch of their new streaming app, Peacock will have an early launch on April 15 only for subscribers to Comcast’s Xfinity X1 and Flex video platforms. The service will launch nationally in the US on July 15.
