In a letter sent recently to the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and President of the Security Council Kelly Craft, the nation of Egypt sided with Greece and renounced the two memoranda signed between the government of Tripoli, Libya and Turkey.
According to Greek diplomatic sources quoted by the state-run Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA), Cairo called the two agreements between these two administrations ”void and non-existent,” requesting that they not be registered at the UN.
With its move, Egypt joined the group of a number of other countries, including the US, Russia, Israel, and the entire EU, which have already condemned Turkey’s illegal agreement with the government of Tripoli.
Meanwhile, a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was held yesterday by Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias in Geneva.

Dendias presented to Guterres the reasons why — in the opinion of Athens and these other nations — these memoranda are considered invalid and non-existent.
After the meeting, the Greek head of diplomacy pointed out that Guterres would refer the matter to the UN’s legal services in the near future so that it could establish its own position on the matter.
