Expatriates Will Have the Right to Vote in Greek National Elections

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has said his government will implement its pre-election pledge to grant Greeks abroad the right to vote in the country’s national elections.
His goal is to get the required majority of 200 MPs in order for it to take effect in the next election scheduled to take place in four years.
This initiative does not only concern expatriates who have left Greece before the crisis, but also the nearly 500,000 people who were forced to flee the country during the crisis.
According to Kathimerini, the two main pillars of the government’s proposal, prepared by Interior Minister Takis Theodorikakos, will be the option of the so-called “letter vote” and the “equality” of the vote by expatriates with that of Greeks living in the country.
