Huge Praying Hands Mural Installed in Athens

An impressive mural depicting two praying hands was installed on a disused building in downtown Athens by artist Pavlos Tsakonas earlier this week.
The work “Two, Hands,” a large-scale mural at the central entrance of 260 Peiraios street, can also be interpreted as two clapping hands.
In 2011, the artist, inspired by Albrech Dürer’s popular 1508 pen-and-ink drawing called “Praying Hands,” created a similar mural near the central Omonoia square which reflected the mood at the time as Greece was in the midst of the economic crisis.
It was massively popular with the Greek public, making a lasting impression on passersby and residents thanks to its dramatic style and monumental proportions.
