A former Islamic State leader detained by the Hungarian police last December when he arrived at Budapest Airport with a fake Greek passport, claimed in a court hearing on Sunday that he worked for the Greek secret service.
According to the news portal Remix, the man known as “Hassan F.”, a Syrian national, told the hearing that he was willing to reveal further details about his links to the Greek secret services, but only if all police officers left the courtroom. His request was denied.
Since his apprehension at Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc airport, Belgian secret services have also confirmed that the man made three trips to Belgium with a refugee passport issued by Greece. Married, with five children, Hassan F. was granted asylum by Greece in 2016 and his family is still there.
Remix says that investigations have so far uncovered that Hassan F. was a mid-ranking leader of the ISIS terrorist organization. On March 31st, 2015, men under his command decapitated or burned alive 37 to 44 people in the village of Mabujah near the town of Homs in Syria.
Some of the individuals executed were members of his own family.
