A photograph of Turkish commandos unfurling their country’s flag on the seabed off the naval base of Souda in Crete during a NATO exercise has caused anger in Greece.
Hundreds have taken onto social media to declare that their action was provocative.
The controversial photo was also briefly uploaded onto a NATO web site before administrators took it down following complaints by Greek officials.
The Turkish soldiers were participating in a NATO exercise called “Ariadne-19” off the coast of Crete.
