Olympia Dukakis Documentary to Screen at Museum of the Moving Image

The Olympia Dukakis documentary, titled “Olympia”, will screen at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, New York, on March 31.

Hellenic Film Society USA will be hosting the screening on the last day of Women’s History Month.

“Olympia” follows Dukakis’ personal roots and journey, in addition to showcasing her acting career. At one point in the film, Dukakis is shown visiting her ancestral home in Greece.

The film focuses on the challenges she faced in her life and work, not only as the daughter of immigrants but also as a woman in a male-dominated world and industry. Other recognizable faces appear in the documentary, including Whoopi Goldberg, her cousin and well-known politician Michael Dukakis, Lainie Kazan, and Laura Linney.

So far, the feature has received incredible reviews. CBS News called it “a thoroughly captivating film, befitting its arresting star.”

Dukakis herself will be present after the screening for a live interview with Foster Hirsch, a film historian, and professor.

The Museum of the Moving Image hosts monthly afternoon screenings of Greek films for its Always on Sunday film series. If you are in New York City, head to Astoria on March 31 to see “Olympia”.
