Seventeen people died of influenza complications last week in Greece, according to the Greek Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO), which published its latest figures on Thursday.
A total of ninety-one people have succumbed to the flu since the beginning of this year’s winter season. This flu season has turned out to be one of the worst years for flu-related deaths ever recorded in Greece.
The official data released by KEELPNO and the Greek Ministry of Health include figures recorded until Sunday, February 24.
An updated announcement is expected to be made next Thursday, March 7.
Epidemiologists and other health experts in Greece urge the entire population, especially patients who suffer from chronic illnesses and the elderly, to get vaccinated in early Autumn, each and every year.
It is scientifically proven that it is vital to get the flu shot before the beginning of the flu season, and not leave vaccinations until the last minute, as people with pre-existing conditions are much more vulnerable than the rest of the population.
