Greek Farmers Ready To Launch More Highway Protests

Greek farmers, who blocked roads in protests last week, are expected to do the same in central Greece again this Saturday. The renewed blockages could prove to be the beginning of a series of wider nationwide actions.
The farmers of Thessaly, who are protesting in Larissa’s Nikea area, met on Thursday and decided to block the highway connecting Athens with Thessaloniki.
Their roadblock is expected to take place in the tunnels of Tempi on Saturday morning.
Other farmers from southern Greece have decided to block the highway connecting the cities of Corinth and Patras, and their roadblock is scheduled to taking place at 16:00 local time (14:00 GMT) on Thursday.
The police advise drivers to use secondary provincial roads to avoid the roadblocks created by the farmers. Police believe large numbers of tractors will completely block the ”PATHE” highway connecting Patras, Athens, Thessaloniki and Evzoni.
The farmers are taking these actions because they desire better taxation and lower social security contributions.
