Parliament Speaker: Release of Two Greek Soldiers More Pressing than Ever

The release of the two Greek soldiers is more pressing than ever, Parliament Speaker Nikos Voutsis said on Wednesday after visiting the servicemen being held in Edirne prison in Turkey.
“We saw the two young men, Second Lieutenant Angelos Mitretodis and Sergeant Dimitris Kouklatzis — we talked with them with ease — they are in a place that they should not be in not even for one day, and this is known,” Voutsis told reporters coming out of the Edirne prison.
Voutsis said that he conveyed to the two servicemen the thoughts and support of all Greeks; from the prime minister to the last citizen. “We conveyed to them what all Greeks are saying, from the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister, to the last ordinary citizen. They understand your courage and the responsibility you demonstrate. They say that you send a  message with your attitude and ethos which is very important to Greece, even though you are unreasonably detained.”
Voutsis said that the demand for their immediate release is now more pressing, more imperative and realistic than ever.
Regarding the Turkish authorities that are unreasonably detaining the two Greek servicemen, Voutsis said that every day that passes they are being exposed to international public opinion.
The Parliament Speaker said that after visiting with them he believes the morale of the two men is high; that they are in separate cells; that the prison conditions are fairly good and that they read many books.
