Greek Authorities Vote to Take Mega TV Off-Air

Greek TV channel Mega faces closure after the country’s National Council of Radio and Television voted to end its operations on Tuesday.
The channel, which has been broadcasting repeats for months amid claims its staff has not been paid, tried to re-classify itself in time for a new licensing tender.
However, a plenary meeting of the council ruled that the board of directors was applying too late.
MEGA began broadcasting in 1989 and at one point was the largest private channel in Greece. However, financial problems have seen its decline.
The council’s decision will now be sent to network operators to stop MEGA’s broadcasts.
